What is Ceviche Recipe?
If you are unfamiliar, Ceviche is a fresh raw fish cured in fresh lime juice, and mostly served with tomatoes, onion, salt, and cilantro.
This is a South and Central American dish that was originated in Peru, and now there are many variations of ceviche based on your location. However, lime juice and fresh raw fish are the two ingredients that appear to be the common ingredients in different areas.
This ceviche recipe is simple and basic, and when you master it, you can go for adding more ingredients of your choice.

Ingredients Of Ceviche Recipe
- One pound fresh raw fish fillets, cut into half-inch dice (you can use halibut, bass, snapper, or other ocean fish)
- One and a half cups of lime juice
- Two medium-large tomatoes, cut into half-inch pieces
- One medium onion, cut into half-inch pieces
- 2 to 3 fresh green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/3 cup of green olives, chopped
- 1/3 cup of cilantro, chopped
- One to two tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 tbsps. Orange juice
- 2 small or 1 large ripe avocados, diced
- Tostadas, saltine crackers, or tortilla chips for serving
Directions For Ceviche Recipe
Combine lime juice, fish, and onion in a one and half-quart stainless steel bowl or glass. Add the lime juice to completely cover the fish and let it freely float. When you add too little juice, it will result in uneven “cooked” fish. Now cover the marinated fish and refrigerate for almost four hours, until you see fish cubes don’t look raw when break open them. Now drain it in a strainer.
Mix the tomatoes, olives, cilantro, green chilies, and if required olive oil, in a large bowl. Now add fish and salt approx. 1/2 teaspoon. Add orange juice, cover the mix, and refrigerate if not eating right away. Add diced avocado just before serving.

You can also marinate the fish a day earlier and after almost 4 hours when you see fish is evenly cooked, drain the lime juice so that it doesn’t become too piquant. To get the freshest taste, supplement the fish with flavorings only a few hours before eating.
Fish ceviche is perfect when served and eaten on the same day freshly-made. You can also store seafood ceviche in an airtight box in the refrigerator for about 2 days.
In case you want to store the remaining ceviche after you have had your meal, you need to drain the lemon juice from prepared or cooked ceviche before storage so that you can avoid the fish or other seafood from overcooking.
